Handbook III: Confronting Cancer with Nutrition as Medicine

Handbook II has introduced the five essentials of a healthy lifestyle and explained how to reduce the risk of cancer cell production while naturally reducing or eliminating cancer from the body. You learned how to strengthen the five components that support a healthy lifestyle, preventing them from dysfunctionally undermining your immune system. This heightened awareness promotes optimal health, helping safeguard you from disease and allowing your body to heal itself as it is naturally designed to do.

Strengthening four of the five elements of a healthy lifestyle—exercise, meditation/prayer, quality sleep, and zero tolerance for stress—is essential for optimizing the digestive process and improving the bioavailability of the nutrition you consume. In Handbook III, we will examine how these elements support digestion in greater detail; however, much of the book will focus on Nutrition as Medicine.

As long as you are alive, it is essential to remain steadfast in your commitment to improving your quality of life and to stay open to adopting new perspectives that help you navigate life’s challenges. Gratitude deepens when you recognize that your efforts to support both mental and physical health make you an extraordinary individual.

Fact: Compared to the rest of the world, approximately 75% of medicines are consumed in the United States. Seven out of ten people die from chronic or preventable diseases. Our healthcare system—intended to support well-being—has become the third leading cause of death. A lack of clarity about what constitutes genuine health versus what is merely considered “acceptable” for a healthy lifestyle lies at the root of this problem. When sickness and disease are merely managed, the outcome remains sickness and disease. When health is created and maintained, the result is health.

Unless you are currently undergoing treatment, consider yourself no longer a cancer patient. Instead, you are someone who was unknowingly challenged by a compromised immune system that allowed cancer cell numbers to increase without awareness. While cancer and its treatment were the primary impetus for writing these handbooks, consider this perspective empowering: these three handbooks—this one in particular—are for anyone who desires to live a healthy and thriving life. They are designed to help readers understand that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a cause-and-effect equation in which the integrity of five lifestyle variables directly influences health and well-being.

Nutrition as Medicine serves two primary purposes:

  1. Consuming healthy nutrition, in conjunction with the other four lifestyle variables, as an ongoing protocol for optimal living.

  2. Using specific, healthy nutrition to help reverse dis-ease that has challenged the body

The consumption of processed foods, sugar, alcohol, and excessive medications is toxic to the human body. Strategic fasting to interrupt ongoing contamination, combined with nourishing foods to restore immune function, are key components of using nutrition as medicine.
